Delivery was a bitch.. I placed my order on the 28th of august and received it the 2nd of januar this month. It took me like three days to build it, didnt have any instructions, so most of the time I looked at the pictures on this page, to get it assembled, pancake.io/3e35fd/sumpod And for the wiring (really time com-summing) I used the this picture: reprap.org/wiki/File:Rampswire14.svg and also some details on the sumpod wiki. I have a single head. I will take some pictures and a video tomorrow.

I starting to wonder about sumpod.. Reprappro needs wiring so its out (as i am rubbish at it) Printrbot seems to have the same bad reputation soliddoodle only does one material ... bleh its all soo complex.. I would have rather got a machine and messed around with material types.. PET, PPS etc PA etc etc... I guess these are still all in their infancy..

Hi Everyone, I am looking to buy a 3D printer also, but getting confused as to which one. Each time i think i have found one i see a lot of problems with delivery etc or low reliability (unless you go for the "budget" 2000 euro models). So far have looked into Printrbot + , RepRapPro, Sumpod, Soliddoodle. (all budget items). The sumpod Aluminium to me mechanically one of the best with the belt less X-Y drive but i was wondering if anyone here has worked with this machine yet. Also if it has the same problems with hot end etc etc as described in the above very nice and detailed account.. Hi aerogeek I cannot speak for the Sumpod Aluminium, as I have never seen one live. For the other printers, it all depends on where you live and what shipping costs you have to pay. A Solidoodle seems to be a nice printer, but the shipment to Europe is pretty expensive. I think, a Mendel Max (e.g. creativemachines.co.uk/store/index.php?id_product=9&controller=product) could be a good printer to go for. At least, that's what other people are saying and concerning the way it is built, it looks well designed and sturdy. I however just bought a Rostock Max from seemecnc.com, which is a fine machine as well. So far, I haven't enough experience with my new printer to recommend it, but it looks good on the way.

Hi Highcooley,
Thank you for the feedback the rockstock looks good but again looks like wiring and soldering...Also does not have dual material...which i need because i want to print very fine mesh..
it is a shame the Sumpod has so much controversy...
It also seems that whether its printrbot or sumpod a lot of printers are having trouble with the hot end..

If I was considering another 3D Printer purchase, I'd be looking at the mendel90 designed by nop head. Awesome looking printer and I've seen it up close while I was at Sheffield. This was a blue colour. The Hot End issue is a problem for 1.75mm extruders. The best hot ends always seem to be in short supply or too expensive to import. 3D printer builders are knocking out their own hot end versions to keep costs down and perhaps not fully understanding what it takes to extrude PLA filament reliably.
