My Sumpod basic arrived last week after 9 months gestation and there are distinct variations. The supplied RAMPS board is different - revision 1.3a. The x and y axes are now rack and pinion and the top is flush with the sides. The brass components under the stepper are my own to make it clear the mdf top panel. Most of the routed cable channels seem to have vanished. After a couple of days I have mechanically complete unit thanks to the wiki. Currently scratching my head on limit switch positioning. Does any body else have one of these later revisions? Andy

Yes, I got mine today after just a 4 week wait! I gave it a trial screwless assembly just to see where everything went. Now need to go out and get some sanding sealer to start the paint process. What's with motors on the diagonal and only mounted with two screws...Is there a logical reason?

Strewth, 4 weeks is almost instantaneous for a Sumpod ! I probably won't paint it now it is all together, watch the 10mm steel bars, they are a very tight fit. I wondered about the stepper fixing but that is the only way they fit the slots in the mdf. I finished the physical assembly and mounted all the electronics now just wondering what else before I power it up. Andy

Hi guys, i just received my BASIC SUMpod 2 days ago after a 10-11month wait! After excitedly unboxing i have been confronted with what seems to be an almost impossible task of building the bloody thing. To make matters worse there seems to be very little instructions out there on how to put the damn thing together!
Do you guys have any advise on what to do and what not to do? or know of quality forums to help build the basic?
AndyP just out of curiosity, did you buy/support a campaign on Indiegogo? additionally it looks like there are certain parts missing in my kit too... and the stepper positioning is ridiculous! Will it break off?

hpod, I bought mine direct from the Sumpod website and paid upfront by Paypal. I don't think there is a complete extruder in my kit but since I intend hanging a 30,000 rpm micro motor on it I haven't looked too closely at the whole extruder/hotend arrangement. The y stepper is fine when jogging with pronterface - yes it is alive Andy

Thanks Ratmonkey, i have used a combination of the official SUMpod instructions other forums and a bit of guesswork to build the frame. The frame and fitting of the steppers has taken me about 6 hours to put together, don't lose hope its not too time consuming!
Nice one Andy, its good to hear that you printer is starting to work!

Hi Guys,
everything is in place, steppers, switches and the sanguinololu Rev 1.3.
im struggling through the electronics phase, has anyone got there basic sumpod running yet? if so did you have any instructions? ive been looking at this site (http://reprap.org/wiki/Sanguinololu#Connectors) for some form of help but im constantly scratching my head! haha
if anyone has succeeded with the electronics id really appreciate it if you could post a schematic or basic step by step instructions to complete this step.
main confusion, how to wire the fan/connect to board. Not sure what the "pan Mnt pwr Skt 2.5" does... and does the bed need to be heated? confused about the power to, do i need to tamper with the power adapter?
you may be able to tell that i had very little knowledge of electronics! haha

additionally did anyone use the stepper with the longest wires for the z axis motor?

In no particular order:- I saved the stepper with the longest lead for the extruder as suggested somewhere, none of th eother steppers had connectors on th eleads and the X and Y motors needed the leads extending. I bought a set of leads from an ebay seller and cut them up to join onto my steppers - joints soldered and shrink wrapped.
The "pan Mnt pwr Skt 2.5" is a panel mounted power socket and should fit in the smaller of the pre drilled holes low down on the back panel, the larger hole is for the power switch. The plug on th epower supply lead should fit the "pan Mnt pwr Skt 2.5".
The fan instructions I found said to wire it into the power feed to the board so it is on all the time the board is powered up so I soldered the fan leads to the power leads going into the screw connectors on the board. The screws would not grip 2 different thickness wires at once hence the soldering.
I don't think the bed needs to be heated for printing with pla but I intend using mine mainly for milling so haven't looked too closely at all the hot plastic stuff.
If you haven't got one then a cheap hand held digital multi-meter will come in really handy.
I can't for the life of me remember how I decided which way round the motor leads went, the board sockets are handed but the plugs are not.
