I am assembling the hot end for a basic Sumpod and have questions. How far into the nozzle does the ptfe tube go? Is it necessary to pack the resistor and thermister with anything ? fire cement, heat conducting gel as used on computer chips? I assume the component leads and ferrules need to be isolated from the aluminium block. Fixing the hot end to the carriage, from a blog somewhere I think the arrangement is like this:- Does the whole thing get wrapped in Kapton tape? Andy

I'd recommend fixing the resistor adn thermistor with something...fire cement etc. I used furnace glue on mine.
One thing your aluminum block looks pretty high up, I think the instructions said two or three mm from the tip.

Thanks, I will look into what I can fix them in with, thermal grease first perhaps as it is less permanent than fire cement. The block is loose and even with no instructions I think I would have put it down near the tip. Does anybody have any instructions ? the half hearted attempt on Sumpod.com is slowly vanishing and was of little use anyway.

the principal of the sumpod hot end is to insert the larger heating element and smaller thermister in the aluminum block. Richard recommends to isolate the end of thermister and heating element by running it through heat resistant tubing (forget the proper nomenclature but the tubing should have been supplied in the kit), then using the ferrels to connect (crimp) the wires running to the controllers. You can then isolate the ferrells/connection with kapton tape. It doesn't matter what type of heat resistent cement or glue you use...or let's put it this way...maybe it matters but nothing was specified.
hope my rambling is of some help.

Everything helps, trust me! I am completely new to this and at the moment it's a bit like doing a jigsaw without the picture.
Cheers Andy

hah..at least your hot end looks like the photos..mine looks like ali. cylinder with cooling fins but it has no way to fit in the mdf mounting or any thermal break between heated block and cold end..nor anyway of coupling the pushfit to it...
and the new extruder.. to what does that bolt without the mdf block that used to be used?
having only just got the thing ( orderd june 2013) don't feel like i would get much from sumpod.
