Hi Folks:
Well we got the machine assembled and wired. But have the following issues.
1) when power on, i hear a clicking sound. My best guess is this is from not proper setting of the motor potentiometers, but unlike most of the other stepper motor controllers, the pots on the small plates simply spin round and round and it seems rather difficult to set them with any precision.
Does anyone have any idea hot to set the pot given it doesn't have a min and max?
2) I followed mikes instructions and modifications/changes in the firmware, and followed locknessi's wiring instructions except I included the 10K pot for contrast control. Well the contrast control works, but I can't see anything there except the blocks. It doesn't appear the encoder is working. Given the problem with the LCD I can't be sure, but it's not in any case clicking.
How can I troubleshoot what the problem is here.
All that being said I did connect via Repetier Host, it was written here it's possible to run without any modifications.
Can anybody provide any guidance on where I should start troubleshooting this mess?

Howdy FabbersRU,
If your stepper driver boards are white then you will need to make the VRef 0.1v as a starting point and not the recommended 0.4v, if green I think they should go around 0.38v. Also make sure you have the heat sinks applied before trying to connect them.
I ended up having to buy a new set of stepper drivers because I was setting them too high.
There is a video on YouTube somewhere regarding how to measure and set the VRef. Will have a look later and post a link if I can find it.
Regards,

Hi Chronos:
going to look for the vid...or maybe I just might have enough controllers without the infinate spinning pots to replace. And yeah they are white boy pots.
thanks for the help.,

Hi Fabbersru, I used the instructions here to set my drivers, needed a watchmakers screwdriver and a steady hand but found it ok. As regards troubleshooting I am using Pronterface and found I had to comment out the references to minimum hotend temperature before it would connect - kept refusing because it was too cold - fair enough since the thermistor wasn't connected!
